The President is Head of State and head of the Government of Coral Island.
The office and its powers
Under Article 6 of the Constitution, the executive authority of Coral Island is vested in the President. The President:
- chairs the Cabinet, and holds every ministerial portfolio not assigned to another Minister
- assents to ordinances
- makes proclamations and executive orders, which take effect on publication in the Gazette
- appoints the Chief Secretary, Ministers, heads of department and members of independent bodies
- is Commander of the Coral Island Defence Force
- may grant pardons
Biography
Her Excellency Lucy Alvarez is the President of Coral Island. As Head of State and head of the Government she chairs the Cabinet, assents to the island's laws and holds every ministerial portfolio that has not been assigned to another Minister.
