Ministries and departments

The nine ministries of the Government, the departments within them and the independent bodies.

Office of the President

Supports the President as Head of State and head of the Government, runs the business of the Cabinet and publishes the Official Gazette.

Led by the President

Ministry of Immigration and Citizenship

Decides who may visit, work, live on and become a citizen of Coral Island.

Minister: Held by the President

Ministry of Border Security and Defence

Protects the island's airspace and waters, controls who arrives by air and sea, and leads the Government's intelligence work.

Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Gaming

Promotes the island to visitors, looks after its culture and licenses public events.

Minister: Yonna Hinton

Ministry of Finance and Revenue

Manages public money, collects fees and duties and licenses businesses.

Minister: Held by the President

Ministry of Lands and Planning

Looks after State land and decides how the island is built on.

Minister: Held by the President

Ministry of Ports, Aviation and Marine Affairs

Runs the harbour, the airfield and the rules for boats and aircraft.

Ministry of Health and Public Safety

Keeps people on the island safe and well.

Ministry of Environment and the Reef

Protects the Reef Line, the island's waters and its wildlife.

Minister: Held by the President

Independent bodies

  • Island Assembly

    The legislature. Until the first general election its functions are exercised by the Cabinet sitting as the Transitional Council (Constitution, Article 17).

  • Island Court

    The island's superior court. Tries serious cases on indictment and hears appeals from the Magistrates' Court; appeals from it go to the Court of Appeal.

  • Attorney General's Chambers

    Legal adviser to the Government; prosecutions; drafting of ordinances.

  • Office of the Auditor General

    Audits public accounts and reports on value for money.

  • Office of the Complaints Commissioner

    Reviews complaints that a ministry has not resolved.

  • Coral Island Gaming Commission

    Licenses and supervises casino gaming; keeps the public register and the self-exclusion scheme; independent of Ministers.

  • Electoral Office

    Will maintain the electoral roll and run elections to the Island Assembly.
