The Reef Pledge
The promise every visitor is asked to make to protect the Reef Line, and the rules in the protected areas.
The pledge
As a guest of Coral Island I promise to moor only where moorings are provided, to take nothing from the Reef Line, to leave nothing behind in its waters, to keep to the speed limits near the reef and to follow the directions of the reef wardens.
The protected areas
Under the Reef and Marine Parks (Protected Areas) Order 2026 there are three protected areas:
- the Reef Line Protected Area: the fringing reef and the waters within 200 metres of it
- Mangrove Bay Marine Park: the waters of Mangrove Bay
- Salt Pond Wildlife Reserve: Salt Pond and its shore
What you must not do
In a protected area you must not:
- anchor, except on a fixed mooring
- damage or remove coral
- take fish or shellfish, unless a notice allows it
Reef wardens may give you directions and board vessels in a protected area.
The proposed Reef Levy
The Ministry of Environment and the Reef is asking for views on a levy on leisure vessels to pay for wardens and fixed moorings. Give your views.
