Before you start

Residents of San Andreas are not citizens of Coral Island. Citizenship is granted only by naturalisation under the Immigration and Citizenship Ordinance, or by a grant of founding citizenship in the island's first year. It is not acquired by birth in Los Santos, by owning property on the island or by working there.

You must meet every requirement on the day you apply and again on the day your application is decided. The eligibility checker shows each requirement against your own record.

What you need

  • A residence permit for Coral Island, held now or before.
  • At least 30 qualifying days on the island in the last 180. A qualifying day is one on which you were on the island for at least 30 minutes. Presence is recorded automatically.
  • No active warrant. The Department reads the Los Santos warrant register.
  • No conviction recorded against you in the last 30 days.
  • No entry ban in force.
  • A citizen of Coral Island who agrees to sponsor you.

How it works

  1. Check your eligibility.
  2. Apply and name your sponsor. The fee of $5,000 becomes due when you submit.
  3. Your sponsor signs in and confirms the sponsorship.
  4. Once the fee is paid and your sponsor has confirmed, book an interview slot at Government House.
  5. The Department decides within 14 days of the interview. The eligibility checks are run again at that point.
  6. If approved, take the oath of citizenship at Government House within 30 days. Your certificate of citizenship is issued when the oath is taken.

The oath

The oath is taken in person at Government House before an officer of the Department. Until it is taken you remain a visitor and must travel on your residence permit. If the oath is not taken within 30 days of approval the approval lapses. You may apply again after 30 days.

What citizenship gives you

  • Entry to Coral Island without a visa, for as long as citizenship stands.
  • A certificate of citizenship with a number, which anyone can verify with your surname.
  • The right to sponsor applicants for naturalisation.
  • Eligibility for positions with the Government reserved for citizens.

Citizenship may be revoked for conduct that would have justified refusal. A written reason is given.

You will be asked to sign in first.

If you are refused

The decision letter gives the reason. If the approval lapses because the oath was not taken, you can apply again after 30 days. If you think a decision is wrong, you can make a complaint.
