Firearms and Ammunition Ordinance 2026: commencement, the Firearms Registry and the firearms amnesty

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN under section 1 of the Firearms and Ammunition Ordinance 2026 that:

  1. The Firearms and Ammunition Ordinance 2026 (No. 15 of 2026), made by the President on the advice of the Transitional Council on 29 September 2026, comes into force on 1 October 2026, together with the Firearms Regulations 2026 (LN 4/2026).
  2. The Firearms Registry opens on 1 October 2026 at the firearms counter at the Police station, Puerto Coral. Applications for firearm certificates, carry permits, visitors' firearm permits, dealers' licences, range licences, security firm firearms authorities and import or export permits are made in person at the counter only. No application is accepted at Government House, at the Immigration desk or through the Government's website.
  3. The fees prescribed by the Fees and Charges (Amendment) Regulations 2026 (LN 6/2026) are paid at the firearms counter when the application is lodged. A written receipt is given.
  4. Under section 38 and section 39(1) of the Ordinance an amnesty applies from 1 October 2026 to 31 October 2026. A person who surrenders a firearm, ammunition or a prohibited weapon at the Police station, Puerto Coral, during that period is given a receipt and is not prosecuted for possessing it. The amnesty does not extend to any other offence.
  5. Under section 39 of the Ordinance, a person who on 1 October 2026 has a Category A, B or C firearm on Coral Island may keep it at their address, unloaded and not carried in public, until 31 October 2026, if they apply for a firearm certificate by that date. If the application is refused, the firearm must be surrendered within 7 days. Every prohibited weapon must be surrendered by 31 October 2026.
  6. A firearms licence or permit issued outside Coral Island, including one issued in Los Santos, has no effect on Coral Island (section 7).
